Need Help Identifying Coin Value
Greetings All,
A co-worker of mine has received two collectible coins from The History Channel and asked my opinion of them and their worth. They were sent to him for a free preview and would cost $24 for the both of them. They are part of a set of coins that The History Channel is going to produce for each of the gold coins that the USA has minted, "The History Channel Club $100 Million American Gold Classics Collection". They are "Gold Layered Commerorative Proofs" of the 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 Coin and the 1854-S Double Eagle. Obviously they aren't anything to do with genuine coins, they are just collectible replicates. From the sales pitch: "Each piece in this incredible limited edition collection is 39 mm in diameter, weights 408 grains, is layered in 10 mils of pure gold and is in Gem Proof condition!" Does anyone know what the actual value of these coins would be? I know they aren't real US minted coins or bullion but are they something that will ever be worth anything as collectibles? Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

10 mils of pure gold. That's 0.01 inches. don't handle the coin because any contact will scratch right through.
It doesn't say what the 408 grains are, but most of it obviously isn't gold. These types of commemoratives NEVER get back the purchase price. Take it to a coin dealer and he will laugh. :shocked_ma: |
Re: Need Help Identifying Coin Value
They are worth absolutely nothing. Like RossL said, no coin dealer in the world would buy them, as they are fakes.
The good news is, I'm sure the History Channel is happy with their side of the deal.:D |
